TIPS FOR A HEALTHY SUMMERTIME POND

There are different types of ponds you can have, like a fish pond, watergarden pond, koi pond or wildlife
pond. In recent times a lot of people now have ponds fixed in their gardens. Before you decide to
have one in your home there are things you should put into consider like the availability of
space in your yard, the type of pond you want, do you want a shallow or deep fish
pond.
Having a fish pond in your home requires a healthy living condition, pond plants are highly
essential too, as they absorbs nutrients and release oxygen.
Summertime is here, this doesn’t mean you should take a vacation from looking out for your
pond. Maintaining your ponds during the hot summer is something you shouldn’t miss out on.
With the tips listed below, your ponds will remain in a healthy condition, clean and
fresh, all you need do is to reserve 20-30 minutes of your time weekly during summertime.
1.) Prevent it from drying out.
The water in your pond evaporates during the hot summer, it leaves your fish with little or no
oxygen, which can make them stressed out and prone to illness, keeping an eye on them at this time is
important. You also need to top off the water each week with stored be sure to add declorinater if you add more then 1/3 of your water back in
2.) Filtration.
Flushing out waste produced by your fish and decayed plants is necessary, Doing so keeps your pond
healthy. A good Filtration system prevents ammonia and keeps your pond crystal clear.
3.) Avoid overfeeding.
During the summer fish eat a lot so it is advisable to feed them twice daily, in the morning and any other time of the day, Fish have a high metabolism and are more active during
summertime. Avoid overfeeding them as, uneaten food decays fast and gets the water
all nasty.
4.)Remove pond weeds
The surface of the pond should be kept clean you do this by removing grown weeds using a net to remove the tiny ones. Before you dispose of the weeds, keep them at the edge of
the pond, just for a night, this allows the creatures living in the water that came out while you
were weeding, get back into the water.
5.)Check for algae.
Algae can show up as a result of the tap water you used to top up, this is why using rainwater is advisable. Algaecides can help clear up pond algae, buy one for the healthy state of your pond.

In conclusion, it’s very important you keep your pond in a good condition during summertime.
The above-listed tips will help the health of your pond this summer.

Aquascape Spillway Bowl Fountain Installation

One of the newest options that is becoming more popular are the Aquascape’s Spill Way Bowls. They can fit EVERYWHERE in your yard. It fits in the backyard, front yard, side yard and even an add on to an existing pond or pondless water feature. Inspired by the Aquascape Spillway Bowl, Basin and Stand allows for an unlimited amount of installation possibilities. The bowl and basin can be installed as a standalone disappearing water feature, or several spillway bowls can be linked together for an amazing display.

A customer in Plano, Texas had FncPonds team install the above set of Spillway Bowls as a early Christmas present for her partner in Spring of 2018. Having wanted a water feature option that was unique but had very little maintenance to fit their busy life. The bowls fit perfectly in their landscaping. Better yet, they added a underwater light kit to the bowls so that they can enjoy them in the evening hours after work. This Aqusacape Spillway Bowl was professionally installed for less then $4,500.

Required Maintenance on a Spillway Bowl

The weekly addition of algae-cides and beneficial bacteria water treatments keep the water crystal clear and is safe for dogs, cats and kids who decide to take a little dip when its hot. The maintenance on a Aquascape Spillway Bowl Fountain in Plano, Texas is minimal since there are no fish creating waste and you don’t have to worry about cleaning them weekly. Since we are in Texas you might experience more string algae then usual put that in part of it and very natural in most pond settings. If he Algae becomes a larger problem ask about our copper iogen to reduce and control string algae to nothing.

Spring Pond Clean-Outs are one of the most important things to do to keep a balanced, well-maintained water feature. It is also important to properly care for your pond following the clean-out, as your pond is reestablishing its ecosystem.

You will have to finish filling the pond and/or turn on the pump after we finish your clean-out.

Following the clean-out, we will re-introduce your fish to the pond. They may be hiding in the fish cave or under plants as they will be a bit stressed.

Add a dose Beneficial Bacteria for Ponds + SAB Strem & Pond Clean to your water feature every day for a week following the clean-out. This helps to seed the water feature with good bacteria and helps to reestablish the ecosystem quickly we will add the first day’s treatment.

The water may turns cloudy or green for up to a week after the clean-out. This is perfectly normal as the ecosystem is being reestablished. Adding your maintenance products will help get the cloudy/green water under control quickly.

Hose out the net & filter in the skimmer vault every two weeks, depending on the amount of debris that falls in. Sometimes, depending on the weather and amount of debris, this will need to happen more often. This will help with maintenance year-round, and extend the effectiveness of your clean-out.

What’s the white stuff in my waterfall or Skimmer area? We add salt to help with the slime coat of your fish and to reduce stress. The salt can take a while to dissolve.

We hope these tips help you with keeping your water feature clear and sparkling this year! If you are still not on our clean-out list, click here to fill out our online form.
